North Valley RegionAmerican River College recently opened a 20,000 sq. ft. learning resource center, combining reading, writing, RAD, WAC, ESL, foreign language, and Beacon tutoring. They are also hiring two comp and two reading instructors. And they recently hired a senior IT tech to update their website. Finally, ARC has completed writing SLO’s for three levels of comp, developmental, basic, and first-year, with a goal of completing both intro to lit and critical think in the near future.Columbia College did not report.Cosumnes River College is working on their strategic plan/program overview, which in part addresses the need for SLO’s. They just hired two new full-timers. And the entire school is considering a compressed calendar, so the English Dept. is discussing the effects on students and teaching.Deep Springs College reported that they “aren’t doing anything ‘new.’”Humphrey’s College did not report.Lake Tahoe...

I would like to announce that the faculty from Modesto Junior College whose ECCTYC Conference presentation was titled “From Part-time to Tenure-track: How to Get Hired for a Full-time Gig” have begun a blog to continue discussion of their topic. They welcome comments from ECCTYC members and conference participants.
